Football turf systems explained: pile, infill and shock pad
A field-tested guide to the three layers that decide how a football pitch plays, lasts and feels underfoot.

The pile
50–60mm monofilament fibres with a textured backbone resist matting and recover quickly between sessions.
The infill
A precise mix of silica sand and SBR/EPDM rubber controls ball roll, foot rotation and shock absorption.
The shock pad
Pre-fabricated foam pads or in-situ rubber pads sit between the base and the turf, dramatically improving player comfort and reducing injury risk.
